Walnut Walking Bridge
At the end of your journey of the Art District take a jaunt across the magnificent Walnut Street Bridge. The historic bridge tells a story. A story of community triumph. Through the perseverance of community members fellow Chattanoogans were able to achieve what local government deemed unrealistic. The City officials closed the bridge and slanted it for demolition in the late 1980s. People do not achieve great things by accepting defeat. A comity was formed and raised half of the money needed to save the Walnut Bridge. The local government matched that amount, and this beautiful landmark was restored and re-opened to the public as a walking bridge.
